Dear Abhijit, Same answer was given by Snipper Trader and I furnish below my reply to him. In addition I attach 3/11 Nifty chart just to tell what sort of a range bar I am looking for. Thanks and regards, Jayakrishnan. Hi ST and Floyd,
A Range Bar of 12 means, there are 12 price increments in a single bar. The next bar APPEARS only when the price quotes outside of the previous bar. Till such time only the current bar is visible on your chart. Bars appear according to price increments and not according to the passing of time. This makes the chart look smoother and market "noise" caused by the minute bars is eliminated to a greater degree. The time factor is eliminated and all the bars are of same size. When I set 12 in the Preference ---> Intraday -----> Custom N-tick ----> 12 R, I got lot of bars of different size and the chart looked slightly better than a tick chart and nothing more. Simultaneously I opened Quote Tracker intraday chart and the 12 Range bars were very few and all are of same size. I counted the bars in QT and to arrive at the same number in AB, I kept on changing the number against R, and when I set that to 1250 R, both charts looked somewhat similar, but the bars in Amibroker are not of the same size. Well, to me, this study reveals that the R bar setting in AB is not what a Range bar is meant to be, as people say, as in Trade Navigator, E-signal, Ninja Trader. I attach an article about Range Bars.
