After yesterday's solid performance the Sensex opened 49 points above its previous close and | | | surged to touch another all-time high of 15115. Following the global market trend, the index gyrated around 150 points before taking a heavy plunge below the 15000 mark to touch an intra-day low of 14966 on the back of heavy selling pressure. Although the market managed to erase most of its losses towards the close, yet a fresh bout of buying in several front-line stocks saw the Sensex close at 15010, down 36 points. The Nifty closed the session at 4406 by shedding 13 points. The breadth of the market was negative as losers outnumbered gainers. Of the 2,710 stocks traded on the BSE, 1,467 stocks declined, 1,170 stocks advanced and 73 stocks ended unchanged. Among the sectoral indices, the BSE CD Index at 4137 and the BSE CG Index at 12760 were down over 1% each. However, the BSE Auto Index added 1%, while the BSE IT Index and the BSE Metal Index gained marginally. | | Movers & Shakers | - Tulip IT gained on receiving the international long distance licence by the Department of Telecom.

| | | Few heavyweight stocks helped the index rebound from its intra-day low. Auto stocks ended with strong gains after taking a dip in the last few sessions. Tata Motors rose 4.03% at Rs745, Maruti Udyog moved up by 2.33% at Rs8,130, M&M gained 1.16% at Rs788 and Bajaj Auto added 1.08% at Rs2,128. Among the other major gainers HUL gained 1.61% at Rs199, Infosys flared up 1.35% at Rs2,020, Tata Steel shot up by 1.35% at Rs634 and Satyam Computer added 1.15% at Rs497. Selling was also evident in several front-line stocks. Reliance Communication slipped 1.76% at Rs543, HDFC Bank dropped 1.73% at Rs1,148 while ITC declined by 1.48% at Rs153, Grasim lost 1.38% at Rs2,727, Gujarat Ambuja Cement shed 1.36% at Rs130 and SBI was down 1.31% at Rs1,551. Reliance Natural Resources attracted volumes of over 1.83 crore shares on the BSE followed by Ankit Metal (1.72 crore shares), GV Films (73.47 lakh shares) and IFCI (73.37 lakh shares).
