The 30-stock Sensex of the BSE fell to its lowest in the past three years. | 
| | | Building on the bearish mood of the past few days, the market witnessed another round of selling with index heavyweights, reality, oil & gas and metal stocks shaving off around 1,200 points. After opening on a negative note, as trading progressed the Sensex lost its strength and slipped deep into the negative territory to touch the day's low at 8,567. The index did pare some loss towards the close, but sustained selling in index pivotal stocks kept it in the negative territory. The Sensex closed losing 1,071 points at 8,701, while Nifty declined 359 points at 2,584.
The market breadth was negative. Of the 2,628 stocks traded on the BSE, 2,322 stocks declined, whereas only 260 stocks advanced. Fourty six stocks ended unchanged. All the 13 sectoral indices ended week. The BSE Realty dropped 24.39% followed by BSE Oil & Gas (down 24.39%), BSE Bankex (down 12.62%), BSE Metal (down 12.07%) and BSE Power (down 11.043%). The remaining sectoral indices posted losses of 5-10% each.
All the 30 stocks in the Sensex basket closed with losses. Among the major losers, DLF slumped by 23.96% at Rs203.90, Ranbaxy Laboratories plummeted by 17.83% at Rs188.95, Hindalco Industries tumbled by 17.82% at Rs43.35, Tata Motors shed 16.54% at Rs162.75, Reliance Industries crashed by 16.44% at Rs1,015.50, Mahindra & Mahindra slipped 16.04% at Rs287.40, Reliance Communications slid by around 15.93% at Rs193.40 and ICICI Bank, ONGC, Sterlite Industries, Reliance Infrastructure, Tata Steel, Tata Power, Wipro, Bharti Airtel, State Bank of India, JP Associates, Grasim Industries, HDFC and Tata Consultancy Services lost over 10-15% each.
