 Market Commentary

Market fails to remain above 15,000

Sensex touched an intra-day high of 15,130 during the early morning session but wiped out all its early gains and closed at 14,777, down 165 points.

The market lost its initial grip and suffered heavy losses on late selling in metal, information technology, consumer durables and several other major counters.

Sensex opened firm at 15,082 and rallied sharply by mid-morning to touch an intra-day high of 15,130. However, profit booking in heavyweights saw the key indices come off their early highs. The market finally gave in to profit booking and Sensex slipped into the red in the afternoon. The Sensex touched the intra-day low of 14,608 towards the close and finally ended the session at 14,777, down 165 points, while Nifty closed the session at 4,434, down 43 points.
