[Technical-Investor] Query To All Members Who - Trade Futures Based On Cash Scrip/Spot Charts

Hi Jay

First of all thanks to you for your quick responses.

Dear Friends

Taking it further as stated by Jay in his mail - I woud appreciate receiving further insights regarding trading futures based on cash/spot/underlying assets charts.

I have heard this being mentioned many a times on this forum but then did not pay much heed as honestly i could not understand what was being discussed.

I have also read on this forum discussions stating that FII's first play in futures and then follow it up with moves on cash scrips.
My query now is:

What about the premiums or discounts - do they have any impact also, how should i execute trades in futures based on charts of either spot or cash scrips.

Should i enter and exit as per the signals received on the cash scrips and at the same price as per the spot or cash scrips in the futures markets.

Should the price be higher or lower for the future trade vis-a-vis the cash scrip/the underlying that i am actually tracking on the charts.

I hope i have been able to express my queries clearly to the group.

Thanks in advance
Best Regards
Floyd

Hi Floyd,

The following mail returned undelivered, because of the e-book size. I have removed the e-book "Trend Trading" by Daryl Guppy and resending the mail. If you are interested the book is available in 4shared.com from where I have downloaded the book.

If you are unable to get it please let me know. I will make alternative arrangements to upload the book from my end.

Hi Floyd,

I think it is quite alright to discuss this in the forum, after all the subject matter is about TA only. And it would be wonderful if somebody also benefit from it or come out with improvements and suggestions which would be more helpful to all of us concerned.

I have attached two articles, both written by Daryl Guppy and an e-book "Trend Trading" also written by him.

Here is a small but a crisp write up

http://tradermike. net/2004/ 05/another_ look_at_multiple _moving_averages

Regarding QT, only the free version comes with three days continuous live quotes. If you register after downloading the free version for a small fee (I vaguely remember I paid Rs.4000 plus for six months live intraday data) you get 10 days continuous intraday quotes and historical data for stocks. No historical data for Nifty spot.

Another thing, you have only Nifty spot and no futures. It is ok for me, personally.  I observed so many times, because futures quote some times with premium and sometimes with discount, it touches your entry price and moves away in the opposite direction. It triggers stop loss level and will resume the direction in which you originally placed your trade. So I am quite happy to trade looking at the chart of underlying and when my entry price at underlying is reached I place order at the equivalent price of the future.

Hope this helps,

Jk.

Hi Floyd,

I am really happy to see a mail from you after a long long time. I am fine and I hope everything is ok with you too.

How well does it work on the intraday charts and Nifty in particular?

Floyd, I trade only in NIFTY. I use it exclusively for Nifty and for intraday observation, with the settings I mentioned in the mail  to Mr. Chockkalingam.

Does the points captured using GMMA reasonable enough for the efforts put in?

In fact, the MACD cross over (the change of colour from green to red) and Stoch cross over gives the first signal. By this time 3EMA would be touching 15 EMA giving confirmation.

I was able to capitalize two nice short calls during this bearish phase which started around Jan 7, courtesy: GMMA.  Bcoz after the entry both the sets of EMAs are well separated and falling which gave great confidence to keep overnight position (my sleep was not be disturbed by the open position) and it paid well.

I suggest you to hide the price bars now and then and look only at the EMAs as "Traders" and "Investors". This gives a more clearer picture of the Market action.

Secondly, in one of Chartnexus charting software Newsletter, the setting for shorter term EMAs are given differently, when plotted, it gave me even a better visual appeal, so my short term EMAs are 3,5,7,9,11,13, 15.

I heard Alexander Elder say in one of his videos that he refers to weekly chart first and observe the trend there  then he look at the daily chart and observe the trend here, if both trends are same then only he will take the trade in that direction. What you say is in line with his observation. It is good to look at the EOD chart first and what you see there is same with intraday chart, I think we can hope for a successful trade more confidently.

What's your personal observation in live markets on the same?

I was a day trader and was not comfortable with keeping overnight positions. GMMA gave me confidence to keep overnight positions and it helped me to take swing trades.

All the best and keep posting to the forum as often as before, Floyd.

Jk.

PS: Now I am not following the method I used sometime back. The present one is better than the previous one in terms of profits. Similarly if I find something better in the future and if it gives me still better returns, I would change my view point. The point is "Opinions are subject to change –without prior notice".  :- ))))

Hi Jay

Hope all's fine at your end.

Watched you post the Nifty Range Bar Charts with Daryl Guppy's GMMA indicators plotted on it.

Just a query based on the same - How well does it work on the intraday charts and Nifty in particular.

Does the points captured using GMMA reasonable enough for the efforts put in.

I have been doing some R&D on the GMMA lately and observed on receipt of a signal combining it with trendlines do give a good trade based on the eod charts.

What's your personal observation in live markets on the same.

Do share your views at your convenience.

It is a wonderful piece of work, no doubt, from the view point of logic and reasoning. But the inclusion of Einstein's name marred the very purpose of the message, at least for those who know Einstien's "take" on God.

The Truth

There is no evidence that this exchange ever took place.
This eRumor has circulated without Einstein's name and someone added it to a version that started circulating in the summer of 2004.
Also, it is not likely that young Einstein would have presented this argument.
In his Autobiographical Notes, he states that even though his Jewish family was not religious, he developed a "deep religiosity" as Jewish child that came to an end when he was 12.
He says he developed a skeptical attitude that never left him.
He made reference to "God" on many occasions but also said he did not believe some of the stories in the Bible
and did not believe in a personal God.

No such incident was ever reported in Albert Einstein's life.

Here are two quotes by Einstein on God.

I do not believe in a personal God and I have never denied this but have expressed it clearly. If something is in me which can be called religious then it is the unbounded admiration for the structure of the world so far as our science can reveal it. (Albert Einstein, 1954)
I believe in Spinoza's God who reveals himself in the orderly harmony of what exists, not in a God who concerns himself with the fates and actions of human beings. (Albert Einstein)

A VERY INTERESTING CONVERSATION : Worth Reading

An Atheist Professor of Philosophy was speaking to his Class on the problem Science has with GOD, the ALMIGHTY. He asked one of his New Christian Students to stand and . . .

Professor : You are a Christian, aren't you, son ?
Student : Yes, sir.
Professor : So, you Believe in GOD ?
Student : Absolutely, sir.
Professor : Is GOD Good ?
Student : Sure.
Professor : Is GOD ALL - POWERFUL ?
Student : Yes.
Professor : My Brother died of Cancer even though he Prayed to GOD to Heal him. Most of us would attempt to help others who are ill. But GOD didn't.

How is this GOD good then? Hmm?

(Student was silent )

Professor : You can't answer, can you ? Let's start again, Young Fella. Is GOD Good?
Student : Yes.
Professor : Is Satan good ?
Student : No.
Professor : Where
does Satan come from ?
Student : From . . . GOD . . .
Professor : That's right. Tell Me son, is there evil in this World?
Student : Yes.
Professor : Evil is everywhere, isn't it ? And GOD did make everything. Correct?
Student : Yes.
Professor : So who created evil ?

(Student did not answer)

Professor : Is there Sickness? Immorality? Hatred? Ugliness?
All these terrible things exist in the World, don't they?
Student : Yes, sir.
Professor : So, who Created them ?

(Student had no answer)

Professor : Science says you have 5 Senses you use to Identify and Observe the World around you. Tell me, son . . . Have you ever Seen GOD?
Student : No, sir.
Professor : Tell us if you have ever Heard your GOD?
Student : No , sir.
Professor : Have you ever Felt your GOD, Tasted your GOD, Smelt your GOD? Have you ever had any Sensory Perception of GOD for that matter?
Student : No, sir. I'm afraid I
haven't.
Professor : Yet you still Believe in HIM?
Student : Yes.
Professor : According to Empirical, Testable, Demonstrable Protocol, Science says your GOD doesn't exist. What do you say to that, son?
Student : Nothing. I only have my Faith.
Professor : Yes,Faith. And that is the problem Science has.
Student : Professor, is there such a thing as Heat?
Professor : Yes.
Student : And is there such a thing as Cold?
Professor : Yes.
Student : No, sir. There isn't.

(The Lecture Theatre became very quiet with this turn of events )

Student : Sir, you can have Lots of Heat, even More Heat, Superheat, Mega Heat, White Heat,
a Little Heat or No Heat. But we don't have anything called Cold.
We can hit 458 Degrees below Zero which is No Heat, but we can't go

any further after that. There is no such thing as Cold.
Cold is only a Word we use to describe the Absence of Heat.
We cannot Measure Cold. Heat
is Energy.
Cold is Not the Opposite of Heat, sir, just the Absence of it.

(There was Pin-Drop Silence in the Lecture Theatre )

Student : What about Darkness, Professor? Is there such a thing as Darkness?
Professor : Yes. What is Night if there isn't Darkness?
Student : You're wrong again, sir.
Darkness is the Absence of Something
You can have Low Light, Normal Light, Bright Light, Flashing Light . . .
But if you have No Light constantly, you have nothing and its called

Darkness, isn't it?
In reality, Darkness isn't.
If it is, were you would be able to make Darkness Darker, wouldn't you?
Professor : So what is the point you are making, Young Man ?
Student : Sir, my point is your Philosophical Premise is flawed.
Professor : Flawed ? Can you explain how?
Student : Sir, you are working on the Premise of Duality.
You argue there is Life and then there is Death, a Good GOD

and a Bad
GOD.
You are viewing the Concept of GOD as something finite, something

we can measure.
Sir, Science can't even explain a Thought.
It uses Electricity and Magnetism, but has never seen, much less fully

understood either one.
To view Death as the Opposite of Life is to be ignorant of the fact that
Death cannot exist as a Substantive Thing.
Death is Not the Opposite of Life: just the Absence of it
Now tell me, Professor, do you teach your Students that they evolved from a Monkey?
Professor : If you are referring to the Natural Evolutionary Process, yes, of course, I do.
Student : Have you ever observed Evolution with your own eyes, sir?

(The Professor shook his head with a Smile, beginning to realize where the Argument was going )

Student : Since no one has ever observed the Process of Evolution at work and
Cannot even prove that this Process is an On-Going Endeavor,
Are you not teaching your
Opinion, sir?
Are you not a Scientist but a Preacher?

(The Class was in Uproar )

Student : Is there anyone in the Class who has ever seen the Professor's Brain?

(The Class broke out into Laughter )

Student : Is there anyone here who has ever heard the Professor's Brain,

Felt it, touched or Smelt it? . . .
No one appears to have done so.
So, according to the Established Rules of Empirical, Stable,

Demonstrable Protocol,
Science says that You have No Brain, sir.
With all due respect, sir, how do we then Trust your Lectures, sir?

(The Room was Silent. The Professor stared at the Student, his face unfathomable)

Professor : I guess you'll have to take them on Faith, son.
Student : That is it sir . . . Exactly !
The Link between Man & GOD is FAITH.
That is all that Keeps Things Alive and Moving.

That student was Albert Einstein.

So, I am
told.

Oooops Mr. PRS PTL, I am neither an expert nor a senior in this forum. And definitely it is not an inside information. May be a technical approach based on which I have posted few charts before. Because there was a query, I shared the information. That's all and truly nothing more than that ;-)))))

PS: Now I am not following the method I used sometime back. The present one is better than the previous one in terms of profits. Similarly if I find something better in the future and if it gives me still better returns, I would change my view point. The point is "Opinions are subject to change –without prior notice".  :- ))))

So, I am
told.

Jk.

So, I am
told.
