VIEWPOINT: GOVT TO MOVE AHEAD WITH WOMENS' RESERVATION BILL
Dow closed marginally in the green, consolidating for the second consecutive day. A year has passed since the Dow touched a 12 year low in March 2009. The recovery has been equally sharp, with the benchmark galloping nearly 63% from there.
For our markets, it was a day of muted performance as benchmark indices settled with modest losses after yo-yoing between positive and negative territory amidst low volumes. Broader market underperformed the benchmark indices. The government's decision to press ahead with the women's quota bill amidst opposition from RJD and SP and the murmurs of protest from Muslim leaders would hasten a realignment of forces and reduce UPA's numerical comfort in Lok Sabha. Desertion by SP and RJD as UPA supporters will mean a loss of 26 MPs. Though survival may not be a real threat, it would leave the ruling benches with the task of managing numbers ahead of every crucial bill, particularly those relating to finance. Markets have been consolidating for past four trading sessions. Though overall technical set up is positive, a sustained trading below 5068 might take Nifty to 4950. Till that happens "ALL IZ WELL".
