Re: [Technical-Investor] Fw: Rockwell Online Seminar Invitation: FREE Day Trading Workshop

Hi Jayakrishnan

Thanks for the detailed explanations. Any clues on how to setup range bars in Amibroker software. Please do let us know.

In absence of any support from Markus i guess what you follow seems to be a slightly tweaked method of the original strategy so am just inquisitive as to how do you decide when to exit a trade. Is it discretionary or is it systems based only.

Also, would sincerely appreciate if you could share with us your overall experience trading this method even if the same was purely paper trading.

Have you by any chance backtested the system and if so what were your findings.

Thanks in advance
Best Regards
Floyd

Hi Floyd,

Hope I have answered all your questions below. Here we go…..

The system is basically meant for Index Futures and hence it works well with Nifty futures (and Bank futures) too. You don't get enough bars in single stocks so I would say you can't use the method in cash scrips.

Tick bars:

I had written a mail to Mark asking the tick bar setting for Nifty futures and he replied that he did not know because he never traded in Indian Markets.

I have come across a post by Mark himself in the Rockwell forum that different exchanges use different ways, so having a permanent number of ticks in a chart always do not give desirable result. Instead he suggested "Range bars".  Range bars are the best solution for an emotionally charged trader. All the bars are of uniform size and it eliminates time factor. A single bar may take 1 minute or nearly one hour also depending on the price range the market dwells in. Have a look at the attached 3/11 Nifty chart, when the market was going down the range bars looked like stair case steps causing no emotion or uncertainty in a traders mind.

To know more about Range Bars read this nice article:

http://www.futuresm ag.com/Issues/ 2009/November- 2009/Pages/ Time-is-relative -with-range- bars.aspx? page=2

The interpretation of range bar in Amibroker is somewhat different. 1250 R in amibroker comes close to the original definition of "Range bar 12" in other charting software.

I use Quote Tracker a free software with Real Time data, which serves the purpose of trading in Nifty Futures, Bank index futures.

Settings:

Range bar: 12

Bollinger Band setting: 12, 2

MACD: No change in default setting (12,26,9)

Colouring bar: I have QT formula.

I came to know of this system very recently and started paper trading from October-end and I liked it very much. In Quote Tracker you don't have Futures data, so I open S&P CNX NIFTY spot and my PIB traders' terminal, and place order in futures whenever a signal is generated in Nifty spot. Anyway I am still paper trading and testing a system.

I enclose yesterdays Nifty and Bank Nifty chart. You can see the first bar is Red and the second bar is Green in Nifty which triggered a Buy entry at around 4890; you know where the market closed yesterday.

Coming to Targets, ADR is of no use for Nifty. The profit target would be working out to 18 or 12 points, whereas in reality the actual profit would be 50 points and above.

QuoteTracker has the facility of drawing Woodies pivot point on the chart. As a rule of thumb,  R1 would be the Target for Long entry and S1 would be the target for Sell entry. In days like yesterday, you will have the Feel of the momentum (this is just because of the uniformity of Range bars) and can have trailing stop losses.

I would suggest you to download QT and keep it opened in your window with the above settings (it doesn't require refresh or any adjustments, it silently works) and try it for your self –again only for Nifty and Bank index futures.

Hope this helps,

Jayakrishnan.

Hi Floyd,

http://www.rockwell trading.com/ video-1

The video in the above link explains a simple trading strategy Rockwell Trading advocates.

I tried this strategy in trading our NIFTY FUTURES and the results are really encouraging.

If you had not already watched this one, I am sure you would like this simple and effective method.

Regards,

Jayakrishnan.
