Time periods really dont matter. One has to find the right one that works for ones eye. A couple of years back I had given a lot of trades with charts using ADX with 50 day period and also with 8 day period. Look back time periods are a function of your position hold strategy and not the other way around.

Thanks. In the Indicator area, in the normal Metastock or Falcon or Iris, I find that there is only one time period, i.e 14 period stipulated. The presentation shows 13,8 as periods. Possibly one is the period and the other is the average line. But none of the systems permit the average line. What do I do?
