[sharetrading] What Trading Is All About

 

Think of your view of the ideal person: who they are, what they represent, how they behave, what is important to them, what they undertake. Think hard about what makes this ideal person admirable. Create a character in your imagination: your personal hero or heroine.

 

Now think about how you have been like or unlike this ideal today.

 

How will you be like that hero or heroine tomorrow?

 

What is the gap between your real and ideal: between you as you are and you as you, deep down, know you can be?

 

How can you start to bridge that gap now? Tomorrow?

 

Trading is just one of those bridges. There are many others: career fields, relationships, competitive sports.

 

All, pursued properly, bring us closer to our ideals; toward that person we most admire.

 

Could there be any greater, nobler pursuit in life than the quest for the ideal: staking a claim to our proper place in the firmament?

[sharetrading] What You Trade Counts as Much as How You Trade

 

Just a thought from one of the blgs on the net!!!!!!!

 

 

 

I have a trading system that has lost about 23% over the last five years. In that time, there were 166 trades, and 44 were profitable.

 

Do I have a good trading system?

 

I have a trading system that has made about 26% over the last five years. In that time, there were 121 trades, and 33 were profitable.

 

Do I have a good trading system?

 

I have a trading system that has made about 1500% over the last five years. In that time, there were 138 trades, and 41 were profitable.

 

Do I have a good trading system?

 

The results are quite different, but it's the same system: I'm buying on a move above the 20-day moving average and then selling and getting short on a move below the average.

 

The first set of results are for the S&P 500 Index (SPY); the second are for oil (USO); the third are for Apple stock (AAPL).

 

The win percentages are similar, but the difference in the amount taken out of each winning trade makes all the difference in the world.

 

We so often focus on setups and how to enter and exit when--just as important--is *what* we're trading.

 

A trading methodology should be built upon the instrument one is trading...one should not (in the manner of Procrustes) try to fit each market to a predetermined system. If you understand that, you'll save yourself much money and grief in the year ahead.

[sharetrading] Nifty

 

At last the bearish sentiment is over powering the bulls. It would make sense to short the markets on intra day signal and hold short in case of close below 5030.

It is better to avoid cash buys for the time being and trade holdings on intra day charts. Stay out on sidelines below 5050.

On Nifty, OI has been reducing for the 5th day continuously in present series, where as it is increasing with a premium on near month, which indicates in my opinion that the down side is limited.

 

One may look at entries on signals near 4950. As I do not see major weakness at this point to reach 4820 or 4590, the major supports on weekly charts.

US markets have closed weak. Australia had opened weak, but making up moves presently.

CAMS has introduced a consolidated mail-back service that provides a holding statement for all the investments made using an email address.

You have to just go to www.camsonline.com and choose "Mailback services".

CAMS provides consolidated statements across the mutual funds that it serves as well as those served by Karvy

Cautionary note: The resulting statement might not represent the entire set of holdings of an investor for these reasons:

There are four such mutual fund back-offices. While CAMS and Karvy account for a bulk of mutual funds, there is Franklin Templeton (servicing FT schemes), and Deutsche (servicing JP Morgan schemes). If you have investments in FT or JPM, your holdings will not show up in the CAMS-Karvy statement
